Paws in the Streets This Saturday!

Grams would love to join the Paws in the Street team, and be in an overnight foster home!

This Saturday is the kick off to the ASPCA Challenge, we’ll be having our first ever Paws in the Streets! Join us in walking adoptable dogs around Clarendon, in hopes of finding them interested adopters! There are a few ways to get involved:

Overnight fostering:
This is also a great way to try out fostering for a night! We are looking for overnight foster homes, who can pick up their foster dog at one of our adoption events on Saturday, join us for Paws in the Streets that night, and then bring them to an event the next day. (Unless of course you decide to foster longer!)

The more dogs we can have overnight fostered, the more dogs can find homes, so please, consider opening your home for a night, and helping us get more dogs adopted!

Walking dogs:
If you can’t foster overnight, we still need walkers! Sign up to walk a dog, and join the fun, sign up today!

Event information:
We’ll meet in front of the Pacers Running store at 3100 Clarendon Boulevard 6pm, and head out from there!

We’re Up for the Challenge: Help Us Save 1500 Lives!

kittenchallengeEarlier this spring we announced some incredible news – LDCRF was one of only 50 shelters and rescues in the country to be selected to compete in the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. We’ll be competing by getting you, our community, involved in helping us save as many more lives as possible this June, July and August than we saved last year. And while that will be an important win in and of itself, the stakes are even higher. Working with you to save more lives can help us earn anywhere from $5,000 to $100,000 in grant money from the ASPCA so that we can provide medical care to increase adoptability, advertise our adoption events to help us increase our adoption events, and to support our adoption events so that we save even more lives, long after the challenge is over!

Our goal? To double the number of lives saved during June, July and August, which leads us to our goal of 1500 lives.

There are many ways you can help us reach this goal, here are just a few:

Outreach:
Do you know of a business that would like to help us during the ASPCA 100KChallenge?  We’re looking for businesses to sponsor adoption events and more. E-Mail sarah.barnett@lostdogrescue.org if you know of a business that might be interested in helping.

Be Social:
Like our Facebook page and follow us on twitter, and tell your friends to do the same. Sharing our Facebook page with your friends and encouraging them to share as well, helps to spread the word about our adoption events and more.

Foster Parents for Dogs and Cats:
Consider fostering, whether its puppies, mother or adult dogs, we need fosters for all of them. We’ll also have a lot more dogs needing foster homes, some even for just a weekend. If you’ve ever wanted to try fostering but haven’t, this is a great opportunity to do so, and to encourage your friends to do the same. E-Mail foster@lostdogrescue.org to get started.

Be a Dog Handler:
We will be having more events every weekend and during the week where dogs will have a chance to find a home. We can only bring as many dogs to an event as we have volunteers signed up to handle them, so make sure to sign up! We already have 12 events scheduled for kick off weekend, and we’re counting on our volunteers to help us save more lives.  Sign up for our weekly volunteer email by clicking here.

Pet Taxi
Our dogs and cats are always going places! On the weekends we load up our dogs and cats down at the Lost Dog & Cat Ranch and send them up north to the adoption events in Northern Virginia. We need drivers who are willing to chauffeur our furry friends to their futures at these events. E-Mail volunteer.coordinator@lostdogrescue.org if you can help.

Are you up for the Challenge? Then join us!
